Kindergarten Lesson 1

Lesson 1:

PE: Get outside and play!
Bible and Prayer: Read Luke Chapter 1
Buy a small American Flag and start to learn the Pledge of Allegiance
Review the Date.  Example: Today is Monday, the 1st of September

Reading: I recommend actually buying a curriculum for beginning readers.  It makes it easier on the parent and if you plan ahead you can use the curriculum for younger siblings when they are getting started.
Mon. Read a fairy tale of your choice, Tues. Poems, Wed. Aesop's Fable, Thurs. Stone Soup or other Folk Tale, Fri. child's choice.

Sight words: we, can, a, I, cat, dog, and

Math:  Positions
Mon. before, between, after.  This helps if you just have a lot of different items and line them up.  Use favorite toys and put them in a line.  Repeat which one is before, between, and after.  Use only three items at a time.  Use complete sentences, "The red car is before the blue car." http://www.kidslearningstation.com/before-after/before-after-worksheet1.asp

Fri. Review

History Mon/Wed: See Resource Page
Additional: Start looking at a map of the world.  Get a globe that you blow up like a ball.  Start by identifying the continents and the oceans.  See how there is more water then land.  Start to add the names to those land masses.  North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, Antarctica.  At the end of the week see how many contents that your child remembers.

Science Tues/Thur: Peanuts and George Washington Carver http://riley.nal.usda.gov/nal_display/index.php?info_center=8&tax_level=1&tax_subject=1&level3_id=0&level4_id=0&level5_id=0&want_id=258&topic_id=0&placement_default=0

Writing:  Again this is a program that you can buy.  I like Hand Writing Without Tears.  The workbook is all you really need if you are on a tight budget.

Latin: In our house I have added Latin to our daily studies.  We use Song School Latin.  It is a fun program.  I am not really serious with my kindergartner and will revisit the same curriculum in 1st and 2nd grade.

Art/Music: These suggestions come from Amblesideonline.org.  Some of their pictures which they choose I do not agree to expose younger children to.  I will have a link of a suggested picture that I like.  However, do not hesitated to go to the library and look up these famous men and women.  Great Stuff!
Jean-Honoré Fragonard: Inspiration, 1769, canvas, Musée du Louvre, Paris
